According to Sheldan Nidle, the book cover of Your First Contact depicts a Sirian planetary command ship in hyperspace. The gold-white reflection is typical of hyperspace reality. "It's like being in a mirror world of multiple images," he explains. In this picture, the plasma field creates an illusion of many lights, gleaming from portholes on the ship's surface. In fact, there are only a few portholes, indiscernible to the human eye. Then there's the illusion of another ship emerging below. "Just imagine the reflective surface of a rotating disco ball," Sheldan adds, as a way for us to visualize the distortion of light in hyperspace.
As part of a Science and Exploration fleet, the Sirian planetary command ship coordinates scientific and other related research on the planet to which it is assigned. This includes study of the planet's weather, biosphere and living organisms. Sheldan points out that the ship is approximately ten miles in diameter and has a maximum capacity of 500,000. Normally, such a ship carries 5,000 to 10,000 passengers, who are Galactic Federation members from various star-nations. That's a relief for those of us who have plans to hitchhike back to our home-worlds!
Through inspiration from his inner guidance, John Broeck has created this poetic image of hyperspace, a tall ship and the light of full consciousness to steer her by. It's a timeless image that conveys a remembrance of our galactic past and our galactic future.
